The University of Limpopo, travels to KZN this week in the last round of the Varsity Football group stage, to face debutants University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in a battle of two teams at the bottom of the log.
Rock-bottom University of Limpopo (UL) travels to the capital of KZN to face off against fellow debutants University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).
In their return to the Varsity Football tournament, UL have once again learnt that in order to contend for the title the team has to put to reality the term “Iyachesa”.
The Limpopo side have been by far the less performing team in the tournament and have been dubbed the ‘whipping boys’ of the tournament. From the first match, they opened up with a thumping of 7-1 by this season’s favorites UJ. They then again let in another seven goals against the Bellville side UWC down in the Western Cape. Overall, the defence of UL has been their greatest letdown as they currently sit at a heartbreaking goal difference of -18.
To sum up the hard luck of UL, they face USSA champions UKZN at their peak in the season. UKZN come from back-to-back results of 3-3 against UWC, and a two-all draw against the mean Red Machine of TUT. Their form has been on the rise following their start to their first-ever Varsity Football tournament.
Here’s how they did against TUT last week!
This will be another key game as the winner of the match would have rubbed salt into the wounds of their opponent and claimed the bragging rights.
The match kicks off at 18:30pm at the Peter Booysen Stadium, UKZN Pietermaritzburg campus.
