Coming off strong from last week’s victory against CUT, NWU will be looking to seal their top ranking against resurgent UWC on Thursday.
UWC showed their credentials a week ago by consigning TUT to their second straight loss, leaving the Varsity Football defending champions playoff hopes teetering. The Noble Boys will thus have to be on their toes when they face them at ‘The Operation Room’.
This week’s encounter is more than just solidifying their pedigree as title challengers as that can be dented by the team with the most improved results as the tournament has gone on.
True to coach Karabo Masehela’s rallying cry for the NWU ‘Purple Army’ to not waiver in their support of the Noble Boys, their current status suggests his words bore fruit.
Of course, the onus now is on the team itself to secure that home semi-final and potential maiden final to finally be able to shed the ‘bridesmaids’ tag.
At this stage, as teams begin to fall by the wayside in the elimination stages (one still has to do so on Thursday), it is teams like the Noble Boys that need to show their mettle and steely determination, if nothing, to play the kind of football that pays homage to where they come from.
