Veteran UJ all-rounder Delano Potgieter has been announced in the defending champions Jozi Stars’ Mzansi Super League squad for 2019.

Twenty-three-year-old Delano Potgieter is currently playing his fourth Varsity Cricket tournament and has already scored 100 runs and taken two wickets in two games for UJ. There is no doubt that Potgieter will impress in the upcoming fixtures, but the Highveld Lions player now has the Mzansi Super League to look forward to at the conclusion of this tournament. Speaking about the signing, Potgieter says, “It still feels unreal to me at this moment, it will probably sink in closer to the time.”

Potgieter, who is extremely grateful to represent the Highveld Lions says, “To play for the Lions means the world to me, it’s a childhood dream that came true. It is a bit more pressure but I try not to think about that and just play the game that suits me.”

No stranger to the Varsity Cricket, he says that his favourite part is that “Varsity Cricket is always a nice tournament to play, it’s very competitive cricket. Personally I take every game as it comes, and I am looking to use every opportunity I have to score runs and to take wickets.”

For UJ, who are currently sitting with two wins from two games, Potgieter says they don’t look too many matches ahead and he believes that the most important part is not to get complacent.

Looking ahead to the Mzansi Super League, Potgieter says, “For me, just to be around all those world class players is exceptional. To learn from them as much as I can and to make it part of my own game.”

Be sure to keep an eye out for this all-rounder as the Mzansi Super League kicks off in November.
