The Kovsies owe themselves a good performance and their coach believes Monday could well be the day they fire on all cylinders.

The Kovsies come up against the NWU in the second of the two Varsity Netball semi-finals. The match starts at 19:00 in the Callie Human Centre in Bloemfontein.

“We know it is within our capabilities to beat NWU. What will be important is to start and end well, something we didn’t do on Monday,” Burta de Kock, Kovsies coach, said.

She referred to the 44-48 loss to NWU where they only scored their first goal after six and a half minutes and faded in the last five minutes with some crucial mistakes.

“We will have to be more patient and our senior players will have to set the example. We didn’t stick to our game plan and in our analysis of the match I showed them exactly how they drifted away from the plan we had.

“We spoke about visualising and the responsibility the player with the ball and the one receiving it has in providing options for the other one.”

She hopes her goal shooters will step up to the plate and sink the vast majority of their shots.

“We, in particular our shooters has put in hours and hours of time and I believe it will have to pay dividends at some point which will hopefully be on Monday.”

De Kock expressed her satisfaction in the return of Meagan Roux who sat out the previous two matches due to a slight injury. Roux covers both goal attack and wing attack and brings a balance to the team.
