  • Captain Megan Gosmann is one of three Stellenberg alumni in the squad, along with Abeline Olivier and Nichole Taljaard. De Kuilen also has three old-girls in the squad with Alison Malgas, Sasha-Lee Petersen and Zahne Petersen having matriculated there, with nine other schools having one representative each.
  • Taljaard, who had an ACL operation in 2016, is one ofeight8 girls who have made their debut this year.
  • Adri Uys, Alison Malgas, Caleigh Stuart, Nielke Matthee, Lindsey-Ann Sparrow, Zahne Petersen and Janneke Baard are the other debutants.
  • Adri Uys, Caleigh Stuart, along with Janneke Baard and Zahne Petersen, are first years at the University and made their debuts straight after leaving school, which is very impressive and bodes well for the future of Maties Netball.
  • Janneke and her sister Charmaine both attended Brackenfell High School and this is the first time they are playing together. Zahne Petersen has some big shoes to fill as her older sister is none other than Sasha-Lee Petersen! Annerine Snyman is the sister of Bulls rugby player RG Snyman.
  • Six of the squad members are studying Bachelor of Education while another six have either completed or are currently busy with Sport Science degrees. Leanne Nigrini is studying Industrial Engineering while Carla Werth is doing a BA in Human Resource Management.
  • With four tournaments Charmaine Baard and Sasha-Lee Petersen are the most experienced ladies in the team and Baard is a member of South Africa’s team that will take part in the Fast5 World Series late in October in Melbourne, Australia.
  • Stephanie Brandt is the South African under-21 goal keeper and along with Somari Els and Abeline Olivier is in her third Varsity Netball season.

With a combination of beauty, brains and bravery the Maties are looking to record a hard-fought victory over rivals Tuks on Monday and they will leave everything out on the court!
