The Maties Netball team will want to repeat their past performances against UJ when they do battle in the third round of Varsity Netball.
Since 2013 the teams have played each other five times and Maties have won four of these encounters. These matches have been played all over our beautiful country, with Port Elizabeth, Stellenbosch, Soweto and Pretoria having done duty as hosts.
The biggest win for Maties was in 2015, when they beat UJ 72-32, but last season the Maroons had to work very hard to record a 60-51 victory in Stellenbosch. UJ recorded their only victory back in 2013, but it was at the Coetzenburg Indoor Centre, and they will want to mirror that achievement.
UJ have started their 2017 campaign slowly, going down 25-59 to NWU and 31-62 to Kovsies, with both these games in Bloemfontein. However, there are no guarantees in Varsity Netball and Maties know that they cannot be slow out of the blocks, and will need to switch on much earlier than in their season’s opening games. They beat UWC and VUT with bonus-points margins, but with their fixture list getting tougher each week, they need to be firing on all cylinders.
The match will be broadcast on SuperSport and the match at the Coetzenburg Indoor Centre starts at 19:00.
