Chris Fortuin, manager of the youth football development programmes in Gauteng and also a lecturer at the University of Johannesburg, says that they can’t make excuses following their 0-2 loss against the formidable TUT.
Mogau Mphahlele’s second half penalty and Lebitso’s late strike was enough to hand Bushi Moloi’s boys a 0-2 win at the UJ Bunting Road Sports Complex on Thursday evening. It’s been a season of ups and downs for the “Orange Army” who are playing good attacking football, but struggling to convert in front of goal, managed to score only one goal against Tuks.
“Congratulations to coach Moloi again. The TUT team has managed to beat UJ again. We’ve suffered the same fate, more like history has repeat itself.
“UJ threw the kitchen sink, fought relentlessly with great courage to redeem themselves, but fell short. That’s football, it’s got many lessons for us, win or lose,”Mr Fortuin said, congratulating both teams after a fiercely contested three points.
The next UJ match is away, against their rivals, neighbours Wits University. The UJ team will be aiming to take full advantage of the Wits game in pursuit of adding more points to their campaign. Wits come into the fourth round of the season with confidence and belief after beating CUT at home. It won’t be an easy game for UJ, looking at last season’s 2-0 whipping of their “noisy neighbours”. Wits will aim to exact revenge and salvage some bragging rights for their fans.
The UJ team’s objective is to qualify for the knockout stages and the boys are fully aware of what’s at stake. Every game will be treated like a final, aiming to salvage each and every point will be needed to elevate the team’s morale and climb up the log. No doubt Wits versus UJ will be a must-watch, as both teams are driven to be the best in the City of Gold.
Watch UJ stun Tuks in Pretoria:
Coach Mandla Zwane has come out to say that the “Orange Army” must not give up on their boys and continue to support them.
“The supporters’ backing counts tremendously,” he said. “Fans are part of the team and teamwork makes the dream work.”
Catch the match live on Thursday evening at 18:15 at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg or alternatively live on SuperSport 4 or 10.
