With three straight losses and lack of scoring from UFH, one can imagine the amount of pressure that has mounted over the weeks for the men from the University of Fort Hare. With only four games remaining; three away and one at home, UFH have been allowed a grace period to sit back, rethink, re-plan and reassess their campaign and pave way forward.

“It has been a tough road so far; it hasn’t been an easy one,” said Charles Hanyani. “At no point did we anticipate that things would get out of control so fast and so early, but this week’s bye is a blessing to the team. Tactically and technically, we can now regroup and find our fighting spirit for the last four games.”

Watch UFH concede four against UWC.

In what has been a horror season for the men from Alice, this is the longest that they have gone without scoring a goal, marking an unwanted mile stone for the team.. Last year they scored in every match that they played in, regardless of whether they won or lost.

“We will have to work overtime, the university (of Fort Hare), is not being showcased for the right reasons. The hard work that we have put in can’t be in vain, so we as a team need to unite and start fighting back. We need to rise from the ashes and pull the biggest comebacks ever to be seen. All that is easier said than done, but we are ready for the challenge,” said captain Siphamandla Zanekile.

The men from Alice need to dig deeper than ever before, so that they too can have something positive to say regarding their last season in Varsity Football, and not wish that this season fade with the wind.

The University of Fort Hare, this week will be have a bye, as they watch other teams play and continue their hard work.
