After a victorious win against Kovsies last week, UJ look to ride their winning momentum and finish strong when they take on UCT in the eighth round of the 2016 Varsity Netball season on Monday night at the Rembrandt Hall.

The University of Johannesburg managed to bounce back from a loss against UP Tuks to win 59-52 against fourth-placed Kovsies. The strong result has kept the Auckland Park side just outside the running for a spot in the semi-finals, narrowly missing out on the final four spots. UCT on the other hand, seek to register their second win for their campaign after a spell of dismal performances have left the Cape Town-based side in seventh position with five points.

UJ assistant coach Charlotte Scholtz said her squad did exceptionally well against Kovsies.
“It was quite an achievement and for as much as people are saying that the Kovsies team are an inexperienced team, we’ll take it – we’ve beaten Kovsies,” said Scholtz. “I think they played phenomenally and showed guts. It was a tight game. At some point we were five or six goals behind and we came from behind to take the game home.”

Scholtz said they are making sure they carry over their winning streak to gain maximum points for their next fixture.

“We want to make sure we get at least 50 points. So we’re going to go out as hard as we can and go out to play like we going up against Tuks or Kovsies and show the same kind of guts we did last Monday.”
The clash kicks off Monday night at 16h00.

UJ Team: Deancke Rohde, Kim-roché Holmes, Ntombizodwa Yengwa, Nhlamulo Mhlari, Angelique Molefe, Jodie Brown, Christell Botha, Courtney Davis, Karabo Mokoena, Nompumelelo Mbonambi, Ntokozo Ramaremisa, Lebogang Malahlela, Tanya Liechterkost
