Tuks kept their unbeaten streak alive when they beat UJ 66-42 at the Coetzenburg Indoor centre on Monday afternoon.

The Pretoria girls sprinted out to an early 10-1 lead and whenever UJ managed to find the basket, Tuks would reply with two or three quick goals. The first quarter score was 19-6 for Tuks and the trend continued with Tuks leading 24-8, 30-12 and eventually 39-16 at the halftime break.

After the interval UJ tried to slow down the game but Tuks cleverly used their power play just before the break to up the tempo and also collect the bonus point. Despite UJ having their best passage of play, the scoreline of 54-28 meant that Tuks had all but wrapped up the result with 15 minutes left. UJ rolled the dice and called their power play with the goal of closing the gap on Tuks. They scored three goals but also conceded one to Tuks, to finish the power play on 58-35.

Credit must be given to UJ, who never gave up and continually improved throughout the match, and scored more goals in every quarter. The only potential chink in the Tuks armour is that they allow their opponents to rally at the end of the match. They will want to be more clinical in a potential semi-final match.

Tuks top the log, courtesy of their incredible full house of 25 log points and with games against the Madibaz and VUT remaining, the Rembrandt Hall in Pretoria is looking set to host a Varsity Netball final. UJ will face Kovsies in a match that could decide whether the Bloemfontein side will partake in the semi-finals before wrapping up their campaign in front of their home supporters against UCT.
