It was raining goals as TUT asserted their dominance in the competition when they beat UFS 6-0 in the fixture of the day at the Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds in Potchefstroom.
The final match of day two was all to play for as whoever came out on top would take the top spot in Group B.
As it happened, it took TUT only two minutes to take the lead when captain Hildah Magaia found the back of the net to make it 1-0. A penalty from Gabonnelwe Kekana made it 2-0 to TUT, who continued to push UFS around for the remainder of the first half. The TUT attack were remorseful and UFS were lucky to only be trailing by two goals at half-time.
Once again, took TUT only two minutes again to extend their lead in the second half and once again it was through Gabonnelwe Kekana.
TUT trampled the UFS defence, whose woes continued as they lost their goalkeeper through injury and were forced to field an outfield player due to no appropriate replacement.
If that wasn’t already bad enough, Sisipo Nxasana scored an own goal for UFS and Kekana scored her hat-trick ten minutes later to make it 5-0 with time running out for UFS to score a consolation goal.
Injury time saw Senamile Zulu make it 6-0 to the Pretoria side, who send UFS back to the drawing board ahead of the playoffs tomorrow morning when they will face UWC in the second semi-final. TUT, meanwhile, will be confident of sealing a seventh straight Varsity Women’s Football final place when they face UJ.
