UWC remained undefeated on day two of Varsity Women’s Football when they beat UniZulu 3-0 at the Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds in Potchefstroom.
UWC set their intentions straight from the moment the game kicked off, with Khanya Xesi showing impressive skill to get to the goal but was unable to finish.
Despite UniZulu’s best efforts, UWC continued to dominate possession, but their woes continued as the ball was hitting the crossbar instead of the back of the net. The Cape side’s domination counted for nought in the first half, as the fixture remained goalless going into half-time. Perhaps they used up their day’s allocation against UKZN?
UWC continued in search of goals in the second half and finally got the breakthrough they had been searching for when Tshegofatso Senanya smashed the ball into the back of the net. Mbaliyethu Mhlongo was then able to double their lead two minutes later when she scored off a penalty to move top of the scoring charts in Potchefstroom.
It was all UWC as Senanya got her second and UWC showed no signs of slowing down, despite UniZulu putting their bodies on the line to defend their goal.
When the full-time whistle went, and after spending almost seventy minutes in UniZulu’s half, UWC claimed a comfortable 3-0 win.
