Tuks gave home fans little to celebrate when they beat NWU by six wickets in the final round-robin match at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Friday night.
NWU opened the batting and Louren Steenkamp, who has the led the way for NWU the whole week, was the first wicket to fall, followed almost immediately by Eben Botha, as they were both bowled out by Kundai Matigimu in the fifth over. NWU continued to struggle in the first 10 overs, scoring a miserly 52 runs for the loss of two wickets.
Michau du Preez joined Ruan Haasbroek at the crease and the two steadied the ship. Du Preez fell just after the two reached the 100-mark for NWU, after he was clean-bowled by Donovan Ferreira.
Ruan Haasbroek reached 50 runs, but met his match when Francois van Heerden caught him out on the very next ball he faced. After that the runs dried up and the innings would end dreadfully for the home side as they lost three wickets in the final over, ending on 132/7.
Tuks tested NWU early on in their innings, but only managed 68/2 after 10 overs. Aaron Visser and Ruben Hermann were both sent packing in the eleventh over, leaving it to Donovan Ferreira and Ruan de Swardt to close out the innings. Tuks gave NWU a good workout in the Potchefstroom cold, forcing them to chase balls around the park as the two batsmen sent the ball to all corners of the boundary.
Tuks only needed 17 overs to beat the home team by six wickets and secure the top spot on the log.
