Madibaz continued their perfect start as they beat VUT 72-36 in front of their home fans on Monday in PE.

Madibaz threatened early in the second game of the day, but VUT fought back. Clever game plans with Madibaz Goal Attack Nolusindiso Twani standing out. Madibaz became a runaway train, scoring quick goals and the first quarter ending 19-8.

VUT came back with vengeance in the second quarter, putting some valuable scores on the board. This forced Madibaz to make unforced errors. The crowd sang and cheered loudly, giving the Madibaz the extra push to straighten up and extend the lead. Lucy Twani and goal scorer Jody Verster worked well together to give Madibaz that much needed gap. Lucy Twani made way for her number two, Bianca Blom, towards the end of the quarter as the score ended Madibaz 31-17 VUT.

Lucy Twani returned for the third quarter, this time as goal shooter while Bianca Blom remained on goal attack. Although the Madibaz remained in the lead for the match, VUT had a sudden wake up and kept pushing, forcing the Madibaz defence to work a lot harder. The Madibaz probably thought VUT were going to be a walk in the park but the girls from Vaal made it worth the while of everyone in attendance. Madibaz still powered to a 46-26 lead.

The first Power Play was called by VUT and Madibaz used it to their advantage defending hard and scoring two valuable goals, while VUT only managed one. Bianca Blom outshone her defender. Not long after the first Power Play, Madibaz called theirs, adding more excitement to the final quarter. The crowd’s excitement added to the beautiful game of netball and both teams were psyched to rise to the occasion. Wing defender Nobu Phuza was brilliant in her position while VUT captain Silondile Mdlondo broke out of her shell and created immense opportunities for the girls from Vaal. The final score was Madibaz 72-36 VUT.

The Madibaz travel to Stellenbosch next weekend where they will take on UJ and Tuks on 2 and 3 September while VUT face Kovsies on 2 September and NWU on 3 September at Callie Human Hall in Bloemfontein.
