Coach Christine Behan and her management team have decided on the ladies who will kick-off the 2016 Varsity Netball campaign when Maties host Pukke in a replay of the 2015 Final.
Juline Rossouw, who is a veteran of all previous editions of the tournament, wears the proverbial captain’s armband and is ably supported by the energetic Jo Prins. Senior players Charmaine Baard, Cari Swart, Somari Els, Sasha-Lee Petersen and Stephanie Brandt will want to continue performing on the Varsity Netball stage and implement the valuable lessons learned in 2015.
The exuberance and excitement that newcomers Annerine Snyman, Abeline Olivier, Carla Werth, Megan Gossman and Leanne Nigrini bring, will hopefully combine with the cool heads of the veterans. The mixture between youth and experience is ideal, as all 12 girls will look to add value to the team effort.
At an average height of 180cm the team will want to dominate the aerial battle, but also have speed around the court. Between the enhanced vision courtesy of Christi Botha and the EyeGym program and high levels of conditioning by coach Marius Fourie, the team is well equipped to deal with all aspects of the match.
Physiotherapist Tracy Ellis is ready to deal with whatever may arise on and off the court and the entire netball office has contributed with planning and administration. Another vital cog in the maroon machine is manager Sune Claasens, who also represented Maties in the past.
The match will be live on SuperSport 10 on Monday 5 September and fans are urged to pack the Coetzenburg Indoor Centre ahead of the 19:00 start on Monday.
