Varsity Hockey’s Power Play is something fans love or hate, not many seem to be on the fence about it. Either way, it’s something the players have had to embrace. Here’s what they had to say after a few matches of experiencing the unique rule.
“I think it’s a good idea, especially with what Varsity Hockey is trying to implement with the fluidity of the game,” said Maties striker Reece Arendse. “It does bring an element of excitement, but obviously it brings an element of stress to the defending side.”
Tuks will feature in Monday’s final and their star striker is a big fan of the initiative.
“I think it’s a really good addition to Varsity Hockey,” said Michael Forest, “because it makes it exciting. It’s sports for the fans and fans want to see goals. It makes it easier for the attacking team to score goals, so I really enjoy the Power Play.”
