The University of Cape Town produced a solid performance to beat the University of Pretoria 4-2 in the final match of the opening day of Varsity Hockey at the Tuks Astro.
The final match of the opening day of action at the Tuks Astro proved to be a tense affair as log leaders Tuks were pushed hard by their Capetonian opponents.
Tuks had plenty of opportunities to score but it was UCT who drew first blood with a converted short corner by Ross Talmage. The men from Pretoria continued to make attacking raids throughout the first half but UCT thwarted their attempts with a solid defensive effort.
Tuks took the lead eight minutes into the second half with a field goal but UCT responded four minutes later with another short corner courtesy of James Watters.
The men from Cape Town sealed the win with 10 minutes left on the clock as Dan Cole netted a field goal to hand his team a 4-2 upset in Pretoria.
