NWU bounced back from their loss against Kovsies to win their remaining three matches of Day Two to top the log while Maties did enough to finish second.
UJ 31-0 UCT
UJ added to UCT’s disappointing run in 2017 as they scored four tries enroute to their 31-0 bonus point win.
UWC 7-12 Kovsies
UWC’s woeful run on Day Two continued as they lost their third match against Kovsies 12-7 but the men from the Western Cape did enough to secure a bonus point.
NWU 32-17 UKZN
NWU made the men from KZN pay for their inexperience as they ran in four first half tries to bag the bonus point.
UKZN struck first in the second half as Siphelele Buthelezi crossed for a converted try.
Jandre Kruger bagged his second try as NWU continued their rampant form but it was UKZN’s Thobekani Buthelezi who had the final say of the match as he scored a Power Play try. NWU won 32-17.
Madibaz 45-12 UP-Tuks
Dewald Naude opened UP-Tuks’ account with a power play try and followed this up moments later with a second.
Siphumelele Msutwana pulled back a try for the Madibaz but UP-Tuks scored just before the break to bank a 26-7 lead at half-time.
UP-Tuks crossed for another Power Play try in the second half and Ciaran Dayaram was on hand to score their fifth try. The Madibaz scored a consolation try but it was not enough to stop UP-Tuks winning 45-12.
Maties 22-0 CUT
Maties make easy work of the men from Bloemfontein as they scored two quick tries in the first half.
CUT did well to disrupt Maties’ attacking flair and made them work hard for their power play try by Willem Smal which gifted the Maroon Machine a 22-0 win and second place on the log.
