Kovsies bagged a late winner through Lerato Moshoeshoe to earn three points in their opening Varsity Women’s Football match on Thursday evening in Potchefstroom.
The CUT women’s football team had the momentum, dominating the ball possession in the early stages of the match. However, a tough Kovsies outfit showed steel in their defence. Both teams did their part in the competition with chances going a plenty for either side, but with neither able to convert.
The first half belonged to Kovsies as they showed more flair and determination to unlock the score, however a great defensive performance by CUT kept the scores level at 0-0 as they entered half time.
The second half began with Kovsies having all the momentum once again, with the opportunities at at goal and chances created building up. Ntaoleng Dlamini from Kovsies struck the ball inches over the cross bar as chances were growing for her team, but there was a mounting feeling of urgency as CUT hung on.
Another chance missed by Dlamini as she blasted the ball wide hinted that the result may end goalless. CUT took the game back to Kovsies and also had a chance at goal only to go wide.
But in the dying minutes of the encounter Kovises were awarded a penalty and Lerato Moshoeshoe made no mistake in front goal breaking the deadlock for her side.
