Following their much needed win last week against the University of Johannesburg (UJ), which saw them move to third position on the 2017 Varsity Football tournament log, the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Varsity Football team is preparing to take on Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in their quest to seal with certainty their tournament semi-final bid.
Faced with the mammoth task of securing an outright win against the tournament log leaders, TUT, on Thursday, 7 September 2017, the North-West University Varsity Football team must emerge victorious if their bid to play in the tournament semi-finals is to be successful.
NWU goes into Thursday’s encounter having won three of their six games, having conceded two loses and a draw against UP-Tuks, amassing a total of 10 points and placing them third on the log. TUT on the other hand, go into Thursday’s encounter having won five of their six matches with one ending in a draw. This sterling performance places them at the apex of the log with 16 points in the bag.
“We are aware of the mammoth task ahead. Our resolve as the team thus far in the competition is to be mentally strong, physically fit and keep our spirits high through the training process ahead of the match on Thursday. Our boys have the motivation and determination to pull us through,” said NWU coach, Amos Xabanisa.
Thursday’s match carries with it uncertainties along with the hopes and dreams of football lovers; NWU will look to break TUT’s unbeaten winning streak in this year’s tournament and possibly settle old scores. TUT will go into the game with the sole aim of maintaining their 2017 Varsity Football tournament ‘invincibles’ status. One thing is certain, there will emerge one winner at the end of the match and who that will be is a closely held secret.
