We are heading towards the business end of the league’s round robin stages. As we bid farewell to winter and welcome spring, the action on the pitch continues to go from one level to the next. The fifth edition of Varsity Football is proving to be a hit. Fans are kept on the edge of their seats and it is becoming increasingly difficult to predict the outcome of the games. TUT have virtually guaranteed their passage to the semi-final it’s just a matter of finishing the group phase unbeaten. But it’s wide open for the other teams to end their campaign in the top four. Here we go again as the action continues.

UJ vs NWU
UJ are finally awake from their slumber and they can smell the semi-final. They are a technically sound team and possess a lot of skill in their squad.  There is no shortage of talent in this team and on their day they can easily put anyone to the sword. They are starting to peak at the right time and they know that a win will almost guarantee their passage to the semis. But NWU blew it when they lost to CUT at home last week. That setback is likely to come back to haunt them. For their sake they have to overcome a tricky UJ. It’s going to be a humdinger of a game. NWU have to throw everything at UJ as they occupy a spot outside the top four in fifth position. But UJ will not sit back and allow them to dictate terms in their own back yard though. Expect fireworks in this pick of the rounds matches. It will be a too-close-to-call kind of a game but at the end of the day they has to be one winner.
Prediction: UJ 2 NWU 1

CUT vs UFH
We challenged them to raise the bar last week and they went on to do the unthinkable by upsetting NWU 2-1 away from home. No one expected them to pull the rabbit out of the hat, but they defied the odds. Perhaps the question that needs to be asked is can they kick on from that excellent result? That is for you and me to find out. The good thing is that they are playing against a team that is known for donating points in UFH. Look no further than their statistics. UFH have played four games, lost all four and conceded 17 goals. That is where your answer lies. CUT can hang on to the top four position with a routine win in the City of Roses. UFH have nothing to lose and they remain a dangerous team but a win in Bloemfontein is mission impossible.
Prediction: CUT 4 UFH 0

Wits vs TUT
Wits are playing host to the runaway leaders TUT, but they will be slaughtered in their own back yard. TUT are a mean machine and seem to get better with each game. Expect another routine win for the defending champions. Wits are struggling and against a polished team like TUT they are in for a torrid time. Second from bottom Wits are no match for TUT on paper. But then again football is not played on paper and anything can happen on match day.
Predictions: Wits 1 TUT 4

Tuks vs UWC
No more home games for UWC and that is a dose of bad news for them. Their two remaining games are away from home at Tuks and UJ and that will count against them. They are bad travellers and that trend is set to continue against Tuks. UWC dropped all three points against TUT in Pretoria West and now they are heading to Pretoria South to face Tuks. Expect them to return to the Mother City empty handed from their two visits from the capital city of Pretoria and the City of Gold. Tuks have to win at all costs and they will deliver when it matters the most.
Prediction: Tuks 3 UWC 1
