Monday the 28th of August is the date that everyone is looking forward to as the defending champions welcome the 2015 champs UWC. It’s Round Five and only a point separates the two teams in first and second spot, and both are gunning for home semi-final positions.

Varsity Sports had the honour of engaging with UWC striker Josh Silent on how the 2017 edition has been for him and his team. Silent scored the only goal for UWC as the succumbed to CUT for their only defeat so far this season.

“The season has been good for us, we are scoring goals and the other plus for us we are not conceding and that is the main objective,” said Silent.

Silent was an integral part of the 2015 winning team and he showed glimpse of what he is capable of in Bloemfontein against CUT.

UWC have a tag on their heads, that they are bad travellers, which was evident at CUT when they lost 2-1. But Silent was quick to dismiss that.

“We are not bad travellers. We have been unlucky and with the next three games being away, it will be vital for us to prove to those who say that we are bad travellers, that we aren’t. But we will have to take it game by game starting with TUT on Monday.”

Gabuza, as he is known amongst his teammates, was part of the Varsity Football team of the season during the previous campaign – a feat he would like to repeat in this year’s competition.

Silent has just scored one goal this season and as a striker he should be doing more, but the UWC marksman knows that it’s not about him but the team.

“My focus is more about what we can achieve as a team at the moment, than me, and yes I am working hard to improve,” he said.

“The week-long break has been beneficial for us as we have more time to prepare for the TUT game. We going for maximum points,” concluded Silent

UWC are not in action this week and face a tough encounter against TUT on Monday, with the defending champions topping the log standings. The game will take place at TUT at 18:30.
