There was no silver lining for North-West University’s Varsity Football team in their encounter against Central University of Technology (CUT) in the much anticipated duel between the two teams on Thursday night, as CUT came from a goal down to win 2-1.
Determined to heed the cry of their supporters to redeem themselves to their tournament glory following last week’s punishment at the hands of University of Western Cape’s ‘Operation Room’, NWU drew first blood two minutes into the game with Cameron Chweu firing in a scorcher of a goal that left CUT’s defence at the back scrambling to save face.
Using their pitch dominance and ball possession in their favour, CUT soon fired an equaliser with an effort by Rakgomo Taole, and soon thereafter finding the back of the net again with the help of Keitumetse Mabathoana, who scored what would be the winning goal.
“We take every game as it comes and that is what we have been doing from our first match,” said NWU team manager, Vuyolwethu Sambo. “We came out here today as a team to play our best. This means we have got to work even harder if we want to redeem ourselves and play the kind of football our supporters know we can play.”
NWU next face UJ away on 31 August.
