Each week of Varsity Football comes with lessons. The past week was no different as we survived one of the coldest weeks across the country. The cold front restricted lots of people to stay indoors but those who made their way to the stadiums they were given full value for their money. The action on the pitch kept them warm.

Coach Bushy Moloi’s trademark celebration is a hit
Catch me if you can. TUT coach Bushy Moloi’s celebration is getting more popular with each match. His walk about on the touchline is attracting the cameras and it’s hard to take your eyes of the coach whenever his team finds the back of the net. Moloi is enjoying himself on the touchline and he has every reason to jump for joy. His team is winning and they are on top of the log. They are scoring goals for fun and the team spirit is high. Those on the bench with him are struggling to keep up with his Johnnie Walker celebrations. Moloi has perfected the celebration and it will be remembered for many years to come.

UWC’s home ground is a slaughter house
Visiting teams have a fear factor whenever they travel to the Operation Room. It’s not called the Operation Room for nothing. UWC Sports Stadium is an intimidating venue to go to and teams return with tales between their legs when they undertake the long journey to Cape Town. All three of their wins have come at home and that says something about them. They capitalise on their home ground advantage. What we know is that their sports ground is their happy hunting ground. More teams are set to fall when their turn to visit the slaughter house come.

UJ are the kings of Jozi
UJ claimed the bragging rights in Jozi. They are the kings of the City of Gold. Their resounding 4-1 win over Wits at Milpark, the home of the Premier Soccer League champions Bidvest Wits, last week, made a statement as one of the favourites to win the title this year. It was a clinical performance and they were worthy winners.

CUT are blowing hot and cold
The Bloemfontein outfit are still a work in progress. They are like a fish out of water. You never know what to expect from them. Their inconsistent showing each week is putting off the betting man. Their outcome going into their matches is 50/50. Let’s hope they will start winning games on a regular basis.

Tuks were missing in action
Whether they are on top or off form, they are a team that everyone would like to see. Do we have to remind you that Tuks are the most successful team in Varsity Football with two titles? Yes, they are. They didn’t play in the previous round and they were sorely missed. They are a big team and have a huge following and as the biggest sports academy in the country they always make headlines. Most of their players are away with Team SA at the student games in Taipei, hence they were missing in action.
