On Thursday, 27 July 2017, the North-West University Varsity Football team will seek to continue their winning record over University of Fort Hare in their first encounter of 2017 as they face hosts University of Fort Hare at the Davidson Stadium, in Alice, Eastern Cape.
In 2016, with the NWU team hosting, University of Fort Hare lost 3-2 to NWU in one of most nail-biting matches of the 2016 Varsity Football season. Recently, following this season’s signing of Cameron Chweu, former Central University of Technology (CUT) striker, NWU team manager, Vuyolwethu Sambo, believes the team has all the arsenal to deliver a remarkable game on Thursday night.
“The team has never lost to Fort Hare,” said team manager, Vuyolwethu Sambo. “They might put up more of a fight with us playing against them in their home turf. However, with the immense training the team has been under, our performance against UFH shouldn’t be anything less than spectacular.”
Another player from the NWU team to look out for will be no.17, Wendelle Martins, who, last season, showed strong tactical skills and was a strong team player.
