Pukke are still undefeated in the 2017 Varsity Cricket tournament after beating Kovsies by 29 runs in Potchefstroom on Thursday.
Pukke won the toss and elected to bat. They posted a massive 199/6 in their innings, scoring 52 runs from the final over, the Powerplay Plus over.
Kovsies got the important early wicket of Wihan Lubbe for 1 in the second over.
Janneman Malan, however, stayed calm and kept the scoreboard ticking. He played some flamboyant shots in his innings of 29. The trademark of a classy team is that they keep the scoreboard ticking. Something that the Pukke have done consistently.
Kovsies were chasing the ball to every corner of the park. Marques Ackerman with a steady 56 was the pick of the batsmen.
At the end of the innings Jovuan van Wyngaardt (37*) and Lesego Senokwane (12*) helped Pukke reach 199/6 in their 20 overs.
Kovsies never looked able to chase this massive score, as Wihan Victor lost his wicket in the fourth over for 6 runs. At that stage Kovsies only had 16 runs on the scoreboard.
Stephen van Vollenhoven (26) and Jacobus Dreyer (34) provided some resistance, but never enough to ensure a win for the lads from Bloemfontein.
Kovsies ended on 170/7 in their 20 overs, losing by 29 runs.
