Clash of the titans in next Varsity Football match between NWU-Mafikeng and UWC

NWU-Mafikeng is set to go against defending 2015 champions University of Western Cape (UWC) in a home game on 22 August 2016 to be broadcast live on SuperSport 4.

The NWU-Mafikeng team, ranked seventh on the 2016 tournament log, will look to play a winning game against UWC, who are ranked third on the log with hopes of moving up the Varsity Football log in order to stand a chance at qualifying for the semi-final round of the tournament.

Defending Varsity Football champions UWC registered their first win of the 2016 campaign when they beat UJ 1-0 at UWC Sports Stadium on Monday 15 August 2016, with NWU-Mafikeng conceding a 1-0 defeat in a match against Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) on the same day in a home game with NWU-Mafikeng at the campus stadium.

“We are working very hard on being able to convert ball possession opportunities into scoring opportunities. The team plays good football but coordination is important in order to win games and make our supporters proud,” said NWU-Mafikeng coach, Amos Xabanisa.
