Bend it like Beckham
Jurgen Booysen’s goal for Tuks is worth seeing over and over again. Twenty minutes after coming on as a substitute at the start of the second half for the visiting team, Booysen scored an incredible goal straight from a corner kick, leaving the CUT defenders stunned. It’s a goal even the great David Beckham would give a standing ovation to.
His goal made it 2-2 as Tuks came from behind, but there was no joy for Booysen when hosts CUT scored a late winner.
CUT coach does it again
For the second week running, CUT coach Petrus Ramoketsi looked into his crystal ball and knew exactly who to bring on as a “super sub” to win CUT the game. Last week Abrahm Singozo was the hero when he scored the winner after coming on against Wits and this time it was Cameron Chweu who proved to be the “super sub” on Monday. Chweu headed home to make it 3-2 for CUT in the 76th minute.
But the fans should also get some credit. They kept chanting “Chweu, Chweu, Chweu” as they wanted to see the attacking player on the pitch. They got their wish and the three points.
Ribabu rescues points for TUT
TUT went into their game against NWU-Mafikeng, knowing that CUT had usurped them at the top of the table. So they started well with a goal from their hitman upfront, Jacob Hlalele, but the man who deserves credit for the victory is defender Collen Ribabu. TUT’s no.4 put his body on the line to stop a shot that was goal bound in the dying minutes of the game. TUT got the win and moved back to the top of the table.
UFH win at last
It’s a moment UFH have been waiting for ¬– to celebrate their first ever win in Varsity Football. Finally, after weeks of waiting, they registered their first win on Monday – against Wits. And where better to do it than at home in Alice? Man of the Match Olwethu Bless bagged a brace and Andile Batyi sealed the victory on a historic night for UFH.
Tuks bench show youngsters how it’s done
There must be some sort of competition at Tuks between players and coaches, to see who comes up with the best celebrations. After Thiago da Serra’s free kick rattled the back of the net to make it 1-1 against CUT, Tuks coach Tlisane Motaung got up to celebrate with his assistant and they did a dance which involved them locking their right legs together and spinning around in a circle. They capped it off with the “dab” that has become so famous.
