Tuks finally earned themselves a victory, with a 4-1 win against CUT on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds in Potchefstroom.
Lebogang Mabatle fired just wide off a corner early on as Tuks threatened the CUT goal.
That was a trend that continued throughout the opening quarter, as Tuks utilised their right flank through Shannon Morgan and Duduzile Qwabe.
CUT barely made it into the Tuks half in the first half of the match, relying on counter attacks few and far between. Eventually Tuks’ efforts paid off when a brilliant interchange between Morgan, Moyahabo Monyemange and Amilcar Thobejane put Thobejane through on goal, as she neatly tucked it away from close range.
But their 35 minutes of consistency was undone when CUT earned a rare corner kick, which was whipped in to a dangerous area and trying to clear, Tuks’ Mabatle flicked it on into her own net and CUT went into the break still in it at 1-1.
Early in the second half Shannon Morgan reclaimed Tuks’ lead when receiving the ball in the box, she made no mistake. They led 2-1.
CUT looked tired, Tuks subs kept them fresh. Soon it was 3-1 when Alexandra Michael fed the ball to captain Lebogang Mabatle, who easily finished from close range. She doubled that minutes later, earning a brace as the ball rebounded to her on the edge of the box and she curled it into the bottom left corner. The final score 4-1, as Tuks finish seventh and CUT eighth.
