The North-West University Mafikeng team conceded its second defeat in the 2016 Varsity Football tournament, losing by one goal to top-of-the-log team Tshwane University of Technology on 15 August 2016.
A clear crowd favourite and dubbed the best team in terms of ball possession and dominance on the pitch, team NWU-Mafikeng lives to fight another match.
The game between the two teams, flanked by an overflow of supporters for both sides, saw TUT guarantee itself a spot in the tournament semi-finals of this year’s Varsity Football.
NWU-Mafikeng Coach, Amos Xabanisa said “The team created many opportunities in this match, but as has been the case in our previous matches, we failed to create goals from all the opportunities. I am confident that we will improve our game and live up to our reputation.”
