Will TUT stumble before the finishing line again?
The stage is set for TUT to banish their ghosts of 2015. TUT lost the 2015 Varsity Football cup final 2-1 to UWC in the Mother City despite being the overwhelming favourites. The only thing standing between TUT and the trophy this season, is themselves. UJ deserve their place in the final alongside TUT, but on paper TUT deserve to win the fourth edition of the competition. It’s a pity that football is not played on paper and anything can happen on the day.

Here are five reasons why TUT will beat UJ.

Home ground advantage
The TUT Stadium has the best atmosphere in the whole country. Their fans provide an electric atmosphere and this intimidates visiting teams. The songs inspire the team to win games. TUT have played their best football at home this season and their 12th man in the stands will push them to go one step better than they did last season.

TUT are tired of leaving under their rivals UP-Tuks shadow
UP-Tuks have won this competition twice. But TUT are yet to get their hands on the trophy. They are tired of being reminded that their cross-town rivals are the most successful team in this competition with two titles. Winning this trophy will complete a great year for TUT and bring the trophy back to Pretoria.

Losing back-to-back finals is unthinkable

Losing a second successive final will break TUT’s hearts and they won’t allow that to happen. They are not entertaining any thoughts of losing a second final – not in a space of two years. They will go all out to make sure that they win the tournament.

TUT want to preserve their unbeaten run
Finishing the competition as the only unbeaten team will make their triumph memorable. They are difficult team to beat and have laid down the gauntlet to the rest of their opponents. Their proud record at this year’s competition is the biggest motivation to win the remaining match to make history by capturing their first title.

TUT don’t want that unwanted record
The loser between TUT and UJ will become the first team to lose a cup final twice in the history of the competition. It’s not a good record to have and TUT will not want to have that one in their history books.
