Kovsies captain Lefébre Rademan has been confirmed as the FNB Player of the Tournament for the 2019 Varsity Netball season.
While the 23-year-old couldn’t lead her team to back-to-back titles she was the clear winner for this year’s best player, ahead of fellow captains Monique Reyneke (NWU) and Jeanie Steyn (Madibaz), and the sixth Kovsies player to claim.
As a further feather in her cap, Rademan also earned the praise of her fellow competitors by being named Players’ Player of the Tournament too – only the second time a player has claimed ‘the double’ in the seven-year history of the Varsity Netball (matching Ané Botha’s 2013 achievement).
Three times this season the B.Ed Management and Governance honours student received post-match awards. Her first came in the Round 4 clash against TUT (a 60-24 win), when she earned the Wimpy Moment Maker award. Rademan then claimed the same award a week later in Kovsies’ tense Round 5 59-55 victory over NWU. Her excellent all-round play in Kovsies’ 70-41 win against Madibaz, in Round 6, saw her being named FNB Player of the Match.
Rademan – who featured at Goal Attack, Wing Attack and Centre – maintained an 82% goal-shooting percentage throughout the 2019 tournament, with her 18 Power play goals (of a 176 total) being a tournament high; and highlighting her ability to raise her game and stay cool at key moments of a match.
